Baby Boomers Still want to WorkHi: Well, although some baby boomers have stopped work altogether. it seems that many boomers plan to continue working after they have stopped working. But the new way they will work will be quite different. First of all, many people would like to continue to be employees, but on a part-time basis. They may work a few days a week, or, more likely, a few months a year. What they are looking for is flexibility, less stress, not the same routine as before. Another group, about 32% accordeing to Fidelity, plan to start new-businesses or become consultants. Usually people start new businesses in areas they know, or if not in areas of service where they can make a reasonable amount of money for the hours worked. Fidelity Canadian Retirement Survey also found that 19% planned to never stop working. Of course, that is quite easy to say when younger. In reality only over the age 70, only 7% of Canadians are working. I don't have figures for over 75, but I bet the numbers diminish. The bottom line is that health and energy may fade. Take the time to play while you have the energy. With around 75% of both Americans and Canadian baby boomers overweight, taking a bit more time off and using it to play and get in shape is not a bad idea either. M.
