Found links back to 1545 in a couple of weeks
Further to my blog where I described how to get your DNA, which is then linked to ancestry records, this past couple of weeks have been particularly fruitful.
Because I am on their email matching service, every time someone has a slighted link to me I receive an email. This links you to the site where I can go back and look at other profiles of people with the same links. This is freely provided information, that is, posted by people who want to share.
At any rate, I linked in to one person who appeared to have French Canadian links. He was sent me a raft of information, going all the way back to 1545 on my mum's side. Truly amazing. He also linked me with a Dugas list serve and all sorts of census information that shows families who lived in areas at a certain time. Birth and marriage records are also available. I have not had time to explore it all yet, and go a bit deeper, but it is there when I am able to.
So, here I am a 10th cousin of a guy in Winnipeg that I have never met, and he is sending me all this wonderful information. You might get lucky, as our family did, not find much information at all, or decide to do the hunt on your own. Give it a try.
