Check out your DNA and family history

Hi:

We have been exploring our family history through DNA matching.  There are several companies that will process your DNA results and give you an historical picture of which part of the world you are from.  Bearing in mind that we all came from Africa, they provide a map which traces your history via your DNA.  It goes back more than 30,000 years.

This is all very interesting, but the real value is that if you like, you can be set up on databases and receive emails when others register who have similar traces.  As we are 97% alike, its the 3 percent difference that counts. We did our DNA through the National Geographic people, but there are several companies: Family Tree is the biggest, National Genographic, etc.  Do an internet search and see about prices.  Ours was around $125.00 US. Prices are quite similar but go up if you want more markers checked.

They send you a kit.  Taking the DNA sample involves swabbing your mouth twice and sending in the results.  A few weeks later you go online and read your results, can print it out, and see others around the world who have similar DNA patterns.  This is very interesting stuff, and a real boom in tracing family history. The real benefit is getting the email addresses of people who have agreed to share their results and communicating with them.  I found a 10th cousin through this.  More tomorrow.
