High Tech Clothing

 Hi:

Most of us have packed for vacations, but the idea of one suitcase for six months is challenging. Not wanting to be sexist, but as a woman I find it daunting. I have also heard of horror stories of the cost of extra luggage. One friend was charged $900.00 for one extra suitcase her return trip from Africa. Expensive souvenirs.

One way to keep perspective on this is to not pack for all occasions and decide that you will buy something if you need it. Yes, bring a small emergency kit, but know that most places in the world will have supplies.

Another way some people travel is that they bring older clothes which they discard along the way, especially if they are going from a cold to a warm climate. They simply leave their belongings behind.

My plan is to use new high tech fabrics.  I already use these for exercising and can see how they do wick moisture and dry very quickly. I have not bought any bug repellent or odor resistant shirts, but I know they are out there, as well as moisture control socks,

The new-tech jackets are a blend of natural wool and synthetic fabrics that block the wind and provide optimum warmth without additional weight. Other jackets are made of high density polyester fabric for water and wind resistance. If you are planning to visit hot, malaria-prone areas, the 30+ UV protection garments repel biting and potentially disease carrying insects.

Searching the internet, I have found a skirt that is water, stain and wrinkle resistant, a quick drying scrunch cloth, that goes very small, without wrinkling, and includes a passport pocket. Wrinkle-free pants that dry overnight are also available. Not to be confused with commonly available materials, these fabrics are truly high tech.

I want to look good while I travel. My friends know I am no fashion maven, but I my sense of self means attractively put-together outfits that I can wear all day and then wear out to dinner in an elegant restaurant. Not for me the blue jeans, sweatshirts and humungous white running shoes. I dress up when I go for dinner at home, so why not on vacation.

Research what is available by using the search terms “high tech travel clothing.” Clothes are evolving too.
