Travel with new fabrics, techno tools

Hi

Travel has certainly changed since I lugged the side of a cow around Africa. The new light nylon luggage with wheels makes moving quickly possible.

Not all places work with wheels however. Cobble-stoned streets, massive steps, dirt roads; all sorts of places require you to carry your luggage.

It's a good word, really, lugging luggage.

Packing light is easier and easier, thanks to techno, breathable fabrics that protect you from wind, can be washed and dried overnight, scrunched up and still look good.

The only thing wrong with the basic black or beige, all matching inter-changeable clothes is boredom. That's alright in countries with low prices as you can buy and discard as you go along. Otherwise I find scarves help in breaking the monotony.

My camera would not work in 100% humidity of the Costa Rican Arenal Mountain. I brought some white silica crystals and stored it in there and it dried out a bit. I can not even image what that would be like today if I was caught in a Cental American country with a large bag of white crystal powder. Did not even think about it then.

More on packing tomorrow.
