Housing: Accommodation, LocationStay Home and Enjoy your CommunityHi: Well, here it is, the holiday weekend in July, and we still have cold weather here in Vancouver. Theoretically it is supposed to rain tomorrow, and the weekend is generally cold and not sunny. What to do, what to do? We decided against going away. Any place we could comfortably drive to will probably have the same weather. But, if you look around, there is a plethora of things happening here. Many of them are indoors. Before you buy overseas know your destination country well.Hi: If you are thinking about moving to another country, do yourself a favor and research your destination thoroughly. Understand the system of government, the employment situation, the economic drivers and the weaknesses or problems the country is facing. Besides understanding the political situation, talk to your Embassy and learn how they treat foreigners in times of crisis. Knowing the pros and cons will help you make a better decision. Use Vacation Time to Check out LocationsHi: Some baby boomers have a good amount of vacation time built up. If you have been at a job for twenty or more years, you might receive six or eight weeks, depending on your employer. Teachers get the summer months off and college instructors in my part of the world teach two semesters and have one off. Sure, they need to do admin duties and professional development, but there is still a four month block of time to play with. While teachers can not get time off during the school or college session, many other workers can grab a week or two around their vacation. Record rains finally stop!Hi: Well, the sun finally shone today, after weeks of non-stop rain. We are hitting records in Vancouver we the amount of rain and number of days with it - around 23 I believe. Unfortunately, it seems to be all people are talking about. They are sick and tired of the continuous grey, and I certainly agree with everyone that enough is enough. Next year I do not want to spend another winter growing moss on my back and fern tentrils down my arms. My bones ache. Walking an Excellent Way to Keep in ShapeWalking as a form of exerise. Exercise is the key to physical and mental fitness at all ages. However, for those people in the second half of their lives, who plan to live to be 100, exercise is the key. Vancouver has evolved to an International City Some cities have been international cities for hundreds of years. A great number of people from around the world have always lived and worked there. London, Paris, Madrid, Hong Kong, Geneva, New York come to mind.
Urban Design and HealthHi: Maybe the towns and villages of old grew by accident, but the design seemed to work. People could access their daily needs from a small core of needed shops in the centre of a group of houses. |
